THE ARTWORK

One of Charles Edward Aldrich's iconic works is this 1896 poster for Hood's Sarsaparilla, a popular patent medicine marketed as a cure-all tonic. Hood’s Sarsaparilla, produced by C.I. Hood & Co., was widely advertised through aggressive campaigns, including colorful posters designed to capture public attention. Aldrich’s work exemplified the bold, vibrant style typical of advertising art at the time, featuring strong lines, bright colors, and a central figure symbolizing health and vitality. His posters were created not just to sell products but also contributed to the visual landscape of the period, merging commercial and artistic value. This Hood's Sarsaparilla poster reflects the era's merging of art and advertising, making Aldrich’s work an important part of the late 19th-century visual culture, and influencing the future of advertising design.
